Description

Mort Drucker MAD #171 Complete 8-Page Story "The Zing" Original Art (EC, 1974). One of the most popular movies of the 1970s was the Robert Redford-Paul Newman crime comedy, The Sting, which went on to win seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. During this same time, America endured the resignation of Vice President Spiro Agnew and subsequent fall from grace of President Richard Nixon. The disgraced pair were seen on the December, 1974 cover of MAD #171 parody of The Sting, and that issue included Mort Drucker's savage take on the film in "The Zing." The artwork for that entire eight-page story is being offered in this lot. The art is a letter-perfect satire of the film, complete with "title cards" like "The Confusion" and "The Beating." The art is in ink with grey wash on Bristol board, with image areas ranging from 17" x 17" to 16" x 21". Other than some edge wear and a missing type stat on page 3, the art is in Excellent condition. The original title stat is included separately. From the MAD Collection.
