Moebius (Jean Giraud) "It's a Small Universe" Page 4 Original Art (1976). The world of Moebius is unlike any other in comic books. The French bandes dessinées artist, best known in America from his reprinted and translated stories featured in Heavy Metal magazine, included among his many worldwide fans such notables as Federico Fellini, Stan Lee, and Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki. Born Jean Henri Gaston Giraud, he drew incredible science fiction sagas as Moebius, including this page from the story "It's a Small Universe," originally printed in French anthology Métal Hurlant and later reprinted in Heavy Metal #6 and in the Marvel/Epic collection, Moebius #4.
The art is in ink, graphite, blue pencil, and watercolor, drawn on the reverse side of a French blueline comic page. All word balloons (captioned in French) were hand-lettered on separate pieces of Bristol and pasted on. The image area measures 8.75" x 11.75"; other than some minor handling wear along the outer border edges, it's in Excellent condition. This panel page has the rare distinction of carrying a Moebius signature, in the lower right corner, and is a perfect example of this gifted artist's work. Full color story pages like this are quite scarce; in fact, this is the first one Heritage has had the privilege to offer. And what a page -- it really needs to be seen up close to be fully appreciated!
