Ronald McDonald Theatronic Hot Air Balloon Display Original Art Group of 5 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1983). This is a very rare collection of original artwork used in the development of a "Theatronic" Ronald McDonald store display. The three-dimensional wall-mounted display featured Ronald and three Fry Guys riding in a gondola supported by balloons. Character movement was created with pressurized air through a technology Setmakers called "Theatronics." The original artwork in this lot includes a group of two graphite renderings by Setmakers Creative Director and Disney Imagineer Wes Cook. The pair feature roughly the same imagery, but vary in finished detail as well as added design notes and measurements. Both are rendered on 19.5" x 18.5" vellum, and the more detailed of the two is on a 19.5" x 24" sheet of Setmakers vellum. They are signed and dated by the artist. The three color studies involve gouache, hand-painted on blue-line spirit duplicator prints. Different color combinations were tested on the balloons to determine an acceptable color scheme. All five pieces show minor handling wear and use. Condition is Very Good.
