DescriptionRonald McDonald Animatronic Display Concept Drawings Original Art Group of 2 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1982/85). Animatronic displays and characters were growing in popularity in family restaurants in the mid 1980s, and McDonald's experimented with them in an effort to transform the fantasy world of McDonaldland and its characters into reality. These are original graphite concept renderings for animatronic displays, proposed for use in McDonald's party rooms, drive-thrus, and interior play areas. The first drawing, illustrated by Setmakers' Creative Director and renowned theme park and restaurant designer Wes Cook, features a new McDonaldland performing group called The McBurgers. It was a small, enclosed theater filled with a group of anthropomorphic hamburgers that were animated and sequenced to music. The artwork shows a front, side, and top view of this display and fills the 20" x 21" sheet of Setmakers-branded vellum. It's signed by the artist and dated 4/23/82 in the lower left corner. The second drawing is of a wall mounted display concept of Ronald McDonald and a pair of Gobblins, piloting a glass-domed spaceship. The artwork shows both a front and side view, measures approximately 8" x 18" overall on 18" x 24" vellum, and is dated 11/7/85. This drawing has a 1.5" tear on the upper right edge that does not effect the artwork. Condition on both pieces is Fine.
