Robert Crumb - Painted Honda Motorcycle Gas Tank (1991). This has to be the most unusual R. Crumb-related item we've seen to date! The story goes that on March 17, 1991, a number of artists were visiting Seattle for the Misfit Lit show curated by Gary Groth of Fantagraphics Books. The artists (which included Robert and Aline Crumb, Daniel Clowes, the Hernandez Brothers, Peter Bagge, Paul Mavrides and others) arrived for a signing, but soon they were at work painting the Fantagraphics delivery van. While this was going on, the owner of the motorcycle pulled up and said, "paint my bike!" Robert Crumb happened to be nearby, and took the occasion to render his version of Edvard Munch's 1893 classic painting, "The Scream" on the top portion of the gas tank. He then wrote in black paint, "R. Crumb Wz Here!" along one side, which was in turn highlighted in white by the bike owner. Crazy, right? You be the judge! The tank/painting is in Good condition.
