Robert Crumb Hand-Lettered Note to Albert Morse, Revoking Power of Attorney, with Original Mailing Envelope (1976). This short note, hand-lettered by Crumb on lined 6" x 9" paper, is one of the most fascinating items found in the Albert Morse collection. In 1976, Robert withdrew the power of attorney he had granted his legal representative Morse, and for years there was speculation on what happened. In the note, Robert insists he holds no ill feelings towards Albert (other than his anger over Morse's inability to get Crumb's IRS troubles behind him). "I don't 'hate' you or anything like that" Crumb writes, "I'm just trying to get a grip on this (expletive deleted) mess that my 'financial' situation is in, and so I just don't want anybody having any power to decide anything in my name any more...". Crumb goes on to express appreciation for all Morse had done for him, and mention his ongoing (at the time) battles with the IRS (who sued over back taxes for all the many "Keep On Truckin'" items produced without Crumb's knowledge or consent). "They're closing in..." he adds at the end. Included with the note is the mailing envelope, written in Crumb's hand, postmarked March 30, 1976. Both items are in Very Good condition. From the Albert Morse Collection.
