McDonaldland Toys Design Drawings Original Art Group of 3 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1973). McDonald's got the idea to start experimenting with toys featuring their popular characters long before the Happy Meal was invented. Here are three original concept sketches of products/toy designs from their earliest efforts. First is a detailed drawing of a single panel section for a child's umbrella. It shows Ronald McDonald holding a hamburger in the center. Below him are the Golden Arches and either side of them appears a Gobblin and a hamburger amid floral decor. The artwork measures approximately 18" x 10" on 21.75" x 13.5" vellum. It is titled "McDonald's Umbrella" and dated 10/2/73. Next is a "Plan Layout" for a McDonaldland train set. It essentially shows placement of the train tracks and the structures along the route. The 11" x 16.5" pencil drawing is on a 20" x 21.5" sheet of vellum and is dated 9/73. The third drawing is the design for the McDonald's Store which was to serve as one of the train stops along the train tracks. Front, back, side, and top views are rendered in graphite and measure 13" x 19" overall on 20" x 25.5" vellum. This drawing is dated 9/73 in the lower right corner. All three pieces have folds, creases, and show handling wear; otherwise, condition is Fine.
