    Description

McDonaldland Theatronic Display Drawings by Wes Cook Original Art Group of 8 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1982-83). In the early 1980s McDonald's began experimenting with bringing their characters to life through animatronic displays in their restaurants. The technology developed by Setmakers was called "Theatronics" and involved the use of pressurized air to add movement to dimensional McDonaldland characters within a stationary setting. Here is a collection of eight original hand-drawn renderings by legendary theme park artist and Disney Imagineer Wes Cook for two proposed McDonaldland displays with "Theatronics." These large images in on 24" x 36" Setmakers-branded vellum feature highly detailed graphite drawings and notes for a pair of animated display concepts. The first is a castle theme with Grimace, Captain Crook, Officer Big Mac, Goblin, and an Apple Pie Tree. Three images show the display open, closed, and a top view, and includes text describing the movements of the animated elements. The second is a smaller display of a singing Hamburger Patch. Two images show the display open, closed, and demonstrate scale. Included with the two large renderings are six smaller ones on 19" x 24" vellum. These address the finer details of design, position, and movements of the characters within the displays. All eight pieces demonstrate the incredible drafting skill of Mr. Cook. They show handling wear, minor edge wear, and the vellum on the six smaller pieces exhibit some tanning. Condition for the lot is Very Good.
