DescriptionMcDonaldland Apple Pie Tree Original Art by Wes Cook Group of 3 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1983). The original "Happy Little Trees," these friendly anthropomorphic Apple Pie Trees dotted the landscape in McDonaldland with branches filled with apple pies instead of fruit. This is a collection of character studies of Apple Pie Trees in a variety of poses and expressions, drawn by Setmakers' Creative Director and Disney Imagineer Wes Cook. The first of the three graphite drawings is of a tree facing slightly to the right. It is a large image measuring 11" x 9" on 19" x 24" vellum. It's signed by the artist and dated 3/21/83. The second drawing is similar with the tree facing just left. More detail has been given to shading and values than the first. The image measures 13" x 12" and it too is signed by the artist and dated 3/16/83. Third in the lot is a series of rough sketches of nine trees in a variety of expressions and poses. These may have been created to serve as a model sheet. The characters stand between 3" and 4" tall and the overall art takes up approximately 8.5" x 18.5" of space on a 19" x 24" sheet of vellum. All three show minor handling wear, tanning and edge wear. Condition is Fine.
