    Description

Martin Thall (as Marty Rose) The House of Hate Preliminary Original Art (c. 1940s). Thall covered the comic-book bases from romance, to Westerns, to horror, and so forth. Wallace Wood often credited Thall with bringing him into the profession, starting as an inker over Thall's pencils. This conceptual piece proposes a mystery yarn, possibly inspired by a 1918 movie serial, The House of Hate. Strong character thumbnails, here, with expressive faces and a range of emotions. The artist's pen-names, Thall and Rose, were reductions of his christened name, Rosenthal, which he had used on his earlier assignments. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Excellent condition.
