DescriptionKevin Eastman - Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hand-Colored Print (1985). The Turtles' first issue had been out less than a year when Kevin Eastman embellished this photocopy for a fan, adding colors and touch-up inks. On 8" x 11" paper. Signed and dated in the bottom edge, it is tanned and water damaged, with a small rip, edge nicks, and corner wear. Overall in Good condition.
Our consignor Bud Plant shared the story behind this and the Peter Laird original art we're offering: "These came from the collection of a long-time employee of mine. We were the first distributor to talk Kevin [Eastman] and Peter [Laird] into letting us handle TMNT #1 in 1984. They printed it themselves (3,000 copies) and intended to sell them at shows. But we got wind of it and contacted them and talked them into letting us have copies of that first printing. At the time we were still a comics distributor as well as retailer (producing catalogs). We sold out to Diamond in 1988. Among their early fans was my employee, Rocco Fasone. I'm pretty certain that Rocco came to either San Diego Comic Con or to Wonder Con in the year these are dated (1985) (as part of my staff running our booths), and got both artists to do these for him at the show."
