DescriptionJohn Byrne - Namor the Submariner Cover Preliminary Artwork Original Art (Marvel, c. 1987). Even John Byrne himself is unsure exactly what this unfinished and unused cover design was for. The back of the page has a note in his personal handwriting that reads "Probably this was intended for one of the Avengers issues featuring the Lava Men. But don't hold me to that!! -- John Byrne". There is not a published cover that matches this closely enough to attribute it, however it is a great image of Namor "in a spot of bother". He is surrounded by bubbles, so we think it is underwater. The front is signed by Byrne in the UPC box. The art is partial pencils and partial inks on standard Marvel cover Bristol board measuring 11" x 17". Slight tanning, with some pinholes in the margins. In Excellent condition.
