Description

John Buscema Conan the Rogue Page 13 Preliminary Artwork (Marvel, 1991). Buscema handled the turn-key art on this one-shot spinoff. He also generated this partially inked page of blocking breakdowns as a rehearsal for a finished page. The dungeon scene features intense facial studies, a moment of violent action, and an ominous glimpse into a torture chamber. The penciling is rudimentary, as befits a conceptual layout, but much of the inking approaches a finalized state. On the reverse, there is a Buscema pencil sketch of Conan himself. Signed at lower margin. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Light toning, push-pin punctures in upper margin and vertical gutter, and marginal smudging. Very Good condition.
