Description

Jack Rickard MAD #193 Cover Preliminary Original Art (EC, 1977). Rickard's covers for MAD were the the face of the magazine for a generation of readers. Here's a great example of Rickard's process, showing his mastery of capturing a likeness without use of caricature, while maintaining a subtle satirical style. The idea of Alfred E. Neuman as Charlie from the hit TV series Charlie's Angels wouldn't be complete without illustrations of Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith to sell the gag. This preliminary cover painting was created in gouache over graphite on heavy illustration board measuring 8" x 10.5". Signed and inscribed by Rickard. Acetate taped over the board. In Excellent condition.
