DescriptionGene Day and David Day The Moon of Skulls Portfolio Original Art Group of 5 (1976). Robert E. Howard's famous tale of intrigue and mayhem, "The Moon of Skulls" (1930), receives a grand illustrative treatment in this set of elaborate ink-and-Zipatone drawings -- bringing Howard's brawling character, Solomon Kane, to vivid near-life. Gene Day is at peak form here. His brother, David Day, contributes the title plate, in a distinctly different style. (The folio predates David Wenzel and Bill Wray's adaptation of the story for Marvel Comics by two years.) Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with shading film and painted white retouching. Image area, 8" x 12" (title plate, 8" x 10.5"). Each drawing is professionally boarded and cornered to protect the stock. Light age-toning, with a few marginal crimps and tears. In Excellent condition.
