DescriptionGary Panter Pee-Wee's Playhouse Preliminary Artwork Original Art Group of 26 (1986-88). Pull back the curtain and sneak a peek into the inner workings of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and the mind of Gary Panter! These 26 page (some of which have artwork on both sides), show the design/refinement process at work as Panter created the unique signature look for the beloved TV series. They are produced on paper and Bristol board and sizes vary, however most are approximately 9.5" x 12". They are in a variety of media including graphite, pen and ink, and some photocopies with additional art. There are some real stand-out pieces in this group, including an incredibly rare caricature of Pee-Wee saying "Light me up". Paul Rubens was a chain smoker at the time and forbid any photos of him in costume smoking. There is also a stunning image of the outside of the playhouse produced as a photocopy with additional original ink work on top. An image of Chairy is included, as well as some set designs and many sheets of proposed wall paper designs. One of our favorite pages is titled "Mutant Doll Heads". You gotta love that! There is also a wonderful image of a cubist Popeye the Sailor. It is a treasure trove of the surreal and bizarre and they are overall in Very Good condition.
