DescriptionFred Thomas Good Ol' Bo Tryout Sunday Comic Strip Preliminary Original Art (c. 1960s-70s). Thomas sought to outgrow his successful line of one-shot gag 'toons and the single-panel Long Shots strip, and so he concocted Good Ol' Bo as more of a sustained-narrative Sunday-funnies presentation. The running joke was to have Bo (short for Hobo) and his fellow derelicts offer cynical observations on mainstream society. In this pencils-only page of pilot-strip breakdowns, the pals seem fascinated by a comic strip about a dog and a flying doghouse -- a clever allusion to a running gag in Charles Schulz's Peanuts. Good Ol' Bo never made it past the conceptual stages, but the humor shines through in every panel. Graphite on Bristol board, built in three conjoined tiers. Image area, 18.5" x 13". Moderate toning and edge-staining. Very Good condition.
