Frank Frazetta Shock Illustrated #4 "Came the Dawn" Preliminary Artwork Original Art (EC, 1956). Artwork for the unpublished story "Came the Dawn" from issue #4 was stopped in mid-progress when the plug was pulled on this title. Frazetta's finished pencils didn't see print until the 2006 slipcase collected of the EC Picto-Fiction line published by Gemstone Publications. The top three images on this sketch page line up with panels in the story. The top right image is a dead-ringer for page 6, panel 3 and is even annotated as such on the art. The top left image is marked as page 2, panel 1, and the character is very similar. The top middle image very closely matches page 7, panel 1. The male character in five of these images bears a remarkable likeness to the artist himself! The individual images measure from 4" to 5.25" tall and have been sketched on an artist's sheet originally 16.5" x 11.5". Some images are pure graphite, others are inked. The page is tanned with broken and chipped edges, and a couple of small rips; however, it has been very professionally affixed to a matting board (24" x 18.75") and is ready to frame. Frazetta signed with his characteristic signature in the bottom left corner. Overall this is in Good condition.
