DescriptionFrank Frazetta "John Carter and the Savage Apes of Mars" Painting Preliminary Artwork Original Art (1970). This fantastic watercolor and graphite work is a rough layout design for what would become Frank Frazetta's 1970 painting "John Carter and the Savage Apes of Mars." This finished work would be used as the wrap-around dust jacket art on the 1971 Doubleday Book Club hardcover The Gods of Mars & The Warlord of Mars. You can see several graphite barbarian figures around the outside of the watercolor where he tried different poses. The finished piece was slightly different still. Produced on paper torn from a tablet, the edges are rough with small rips and tears (one of which has been mended with tape from the backside). Paper size is 12" x 7.25". Matted and ready to frame. Overall in Very Good condition.
