    Description

Filmation Studios - "Star Trek" Hand Painted Limited Edition Cel (174/400) (1973). When the top executives at Filmation approached Gene Roddenberry and Paramount about obtaining the rights to do an animated version of "Star Trek", they promised to commit their best team of creative artists to the new project and pledged that the look and feel of everything from the U.S.S. Enterprise interiors to the uniforms and props would be authentic. When you take a good look at this remarkable limited edition cel, you can tell that the artisans of Filmation Studios really knocked themselves out, following that criteria. This all-star scenario features Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura and Nurse Chapel standing on the deck of the original Enterprise. A tour-de-force of pen and ink and cel vinyl paint! The art measures 10.5" x 12.5" and is in Excellent condition. From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "This is another of the reproduction "cels" offered by Filmation as an adjunct to their animated cartoon "Star Trek" series. I bought this one because it was a perfect group portrait. Apparently it sold out very quickly, causing Filmation to offer a second, variant edition with Spock, from the back, holding a camera to take the "shot" - but he's no longer in the lineup."

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
