Description

Drew Struzan Spider-Man Poster Preliminary Original Art (Thought Factory, 1977). When it comes to movie posters, chances are the images burned into your memory sprang from the hand of the late, great Drew Struzan. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Back to the Future. Harry Potter. His brush defined blockbuster iconography for over four decades. But before his Hollywood heyday, Struzan turned his talents toward comics' greatest icons, including Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, for a series of early Thought Factory posters. Shown here is his preliminary drawing for the Spider-Man poster, depicting the webslinger in a strikingly realistic pose against a webbed backdrop, with a comic-style panel below showing Spidey swinging through New York City. While the overall composition echoes the final painting, the are differences in Spidey's stance, the logo's placement, and the panel art, making this a fascinating glimpse into Struzan's process. Graphite and white pencil on vellum with an image area of 11" x 16.75". The piece is partially taped to a 13.5" x 22" piece of foam core. Slight toning, with light wrinkling and handling wear. Signed by Struzan in the bottom margin. In Very Good condition.
