DescriptionDave Graue Alley Oop Preliminary Original Comic-Strip Art dated 5-19-78 and 12-9-78 Group of 2 (Newspaper Enterprise Association, 1978). Graue, longtime assistant on V.T. Hamlin's cavemen-and-dinosaurs feature Alley Oop, had taken charge of the strip by increments since 1971, during Hamlin's gradual retirement. A solo-Graue Oop is virtually identical to the Hamlin style, as a consequence of their extended affiliation. These conceptual pieces capture well the strip's essence of suspense and adventure, mingled with a comical attitude. Graphite on vellum. Image areas, 8" x 6" and 16" x 6". Larger piece is inscribed. Excellent condition.
