Description
Carl Barks Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge "The Lemonade King" Preliminary Cover Sketch Original Art (Whitman, c. 1959). The first time Barks received published credit for his Disney work was on the children's book "The Lemonade King!" Only pencil art exists, as there was no inked version by Barks, rather, Norm McGary painted the finished art using Barks' work as a reference. Barks did several different sketches for this cover (four versions, by one account) and this one does not precisely correspond with McGary's finished painting. However, it sure does capture the Duck family in a rather joyous mood! Rendered in graphite on onionskin paper with an image area of 9.5" x 11.5". Glass front framed to 14.5" x 17.5". Our consignor Bill Cole purchased this directly from "The Good Duck Artist" Carl Barks, who signed and inscribe the piece to Mr. Cole in the lower margin. Toned and in Very Good condition.
