Description

Carl Barks "Sheriff of Tombstone" Painting Preliminary Original Art (1978). "The Good Duck Artist", Carl Barks, was granted a royalty-free license by Disney in 1971 to create paintings of their characters, particularly the beloved Duckburg cast for which he was renowned. Unfortunately, Disney revoked the license in 1976, prompting Barks to explore other creative projects (until reinstated in 1982). One of the most unique was his "Famous Figures of History as They Might Have Looked Had Their Genes Gotten Mixed with Waterfowl" series -- a title as amusingly long as the concept was clever. Entitled "Sheriff of Tombstone", this prelim is meant to depict lawman Wyatt Earp at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone after facing the Clanton-McLaury gang in a legendary shootout. You might be able to surmise the results based on the shell casings and trough! The final painting based on this prelim was eventually published in the limited edition art book Animal Quackers (1996) based on this whimsical series. Created in graphite with an image area of 8" x 10", matted and glass-front framed to 15.25" x 17.50". Slight toning and notes in the bottom margin. Presents in Excellent condition.
