Carl Barks Menace from the Grotto Preliminary Original Art (1976). Carl Barks paintings are as rare as Duck teeth. So prelim art for one is equally rare. This was acquired directly from Barks by our consignor Bill Cole. This work was inspired by an interior scene from Four Color #159 in 1947. After he had completed this painting in 1976, Barks returned to this image for the all-new cover for Donald Duck Adventures #9 (Gladstone, 1988). This particular painting was used by Another Rainbow for a large litho print in 1996. The prelim work features Donald and two of the nephews rendered in graphite on vellum with an image area of 12" x 16". Toned and in Very Good condition. From the Personal Collection of Bill Cole.
