DescriptionBernie Wrightson Preliminary Horror-Comic Layout Original Art (DC, c. 1970). Wrightson's conceptual layouts are as vivid and expressive as many another artist's finished work. This untitled preliminary piece is a splendid example, from his formative period at DC before Wrightson and Len Wein altered the very landscape of horror-and-heroism comics with their introduction of Swamp Thing in 1971. The swampbound setting, the anguished faces, and the likeness of an EC Comics-style narrator (upper left) -- all bespeak Wrightson's fondness for the EC mainstay artist Graham Ingels. Pencil on vellum. Image area, 10" x 15". One marginal tear and wrinkling at lower right corner. Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
