Description

Bernie Wrightson Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein Unused Frontispiece Illustration Preliminary Original Art (Marvel, c. 1976). An unused yet fully finished study for Wrightson's towering masterpiece: his illustrated adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. First published by Marvel in 1983, Wrightson's Frankenstein is widely regarded as his magnum opus, a work where every shadow, flourish, and etched line feels carved from the Gothic heart of the novel. This frontispiece preliminary captures classic Wrightson elements: gleaming glassware, a brooding skull, and the stark silhouettes of the mad doctor and his creation. A haunting alternate vision from the project that defined a legend, created in pen ink on art paper with a matted image area of 7" x 9.25", Plexiglas-front framed to 19" x 24". Slight toning, with dust shadow at the top, crease across the center, ink spotting, and marginal test marks. Presents in Very Good condition.
