DescriptionBernie Wrightson Batman: Cult and Hellraiser Preliminary Pages Original Art Group of 4 (DC/Marvel, 1988-89). Prelim art by Bernie Wrightson is still stronger than some artist's finished works... and here we have four great pages! Although it was completely a Wrightson vehicle, there is no denying that some visual elements of Batman: The Cult were inspired by Alan Moore and Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. From The Cult Issue #3, we have prelims for page 21, which shows the action-set-against-newscasters storytelling dynamic in use. The from issue #4 of that same series, the last panel of the prelim for page 32 shows an immense Batmobile lightly penciled in the distance. The next year, Wrightson would produce "The Warm Red" for the first issue of Clive Barker's Hellraiser comic book. Here we have prelim for page 5 of that story. Lastly, there is a fantastic prelim on Bristol board for a splash page with no further info on it. Great looking pages, pure Wrightson graphite, on paper (unless noted) with an image area of approximately 10" x 16". The pages are lightly toned, with light handling; otherwise, in Excellent condition.
