Description

Alex Ross - Justice League of America Early Study Preliminary Original Art (c. 1992). This appears to be a study of the JLA by Ross that lead to one of the original submission pieces he sent to DC Comics seeking work from them, and one of his earliest works we've ever offered. This is what Ross had to say about that original 1992 finished submission piece: "This shows my very first ideas about Superman, which are a very Fleisher-esque version, and about the (1990) CBS TV show's Flash. [The Batman is in fact] based on Freddie Mercury's face on the cover of the Queen II album, and Wonder Woman is based on Roger Taylor right next to him." The piece is produced in color marker over graphite on 17" x 11" paper and affixed to a larger Bristol board, Museum Glass-front framed to 25" x 19". There is a roughed-in inset panel on top of the image with just the barest beginnings of some figures, one of which is definitely Batman. Some toning on the sides and handling wear. Signed by Ross in the lower image area and presents in Very Good condition.

More Information: The JLA characters depicted in the study are Green Lantern, Flash, Captain Marvel (Shazam), Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Plastic Man.
