Caniff modeled Taffy Tucker after a real-world personality, Bernice Taylor of Kansas -- who celebrated her 95th birthday in 2013 by reading her fictional adventures as Taffy Tucker in The Complete Terry and the Pirates, V5 (Library of American Comics/IDW Publ.; 2008). Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 22" x 7", matted to 24.75" x 9.5". Moderate toning and light stain-spattering. Very Good condition.
