    Description

Michael H. Price and George E. Turner The Cruel Plains Portrait of Native American Warrior Maman-Ti, the Owl Prophet Original Art (Zone Press, 2005). Mighty warrior of the wild Southwestern Plains, Maman-Ti, seemed possessed of supernatural powers -- including an uncanny ability to predict the outcome of any battle. He was believed to harbor the spirit of an owl. This eerie study is Price's posthumous collaboration with artist-historian Turner, who had prepared the original pencil drawing some 40 years before Price finished it out in ink for a book of Texas' weirder back-stories. Signed at lower left. Ink, white watercolor, and felt markers over graphite on watercolor stock. Image area, 10" x 15". Faintly toned and in Excellent condition.
