    Description

Michael H. Price and George E. Turner The Cruel Plains Portrait of Native American Warrior Maman-Ti, the Owl Prophet Original Art (Zone Press, 2005). Feared and respected by Indians and Cavalrymen alike, Maman-Ti was one of the more influential battle strategists of the 19th century -- with an uncanny ability to predict the outcome of any skirmish. Said to harbor the spirit of a ghostly owl, Maman-Ti inspired many a rebellion against the land-grabbing new settlers of the Texas Plains. This soulful portrait is Price's posthumous collaboration with artist-historian Turner, who had generated the original pencil drawing some 40 years before Price finished it out in ink for a book of Southwestern lore. Signed at lower right. Ink, white watercolor, and felt markers over graphite on watercolor stock. Image area, 10" x 15". Faintly toned and in Excellent condition.
