    Description

Merrill Blosser Freckles and His Friends Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (NEA Service, Inc., 1935). Blosser evolved Freckles from kid-stuff comedy to high adventure during the first few decades of the last century. This variation on a Lost World theme finds Freckles McGoosey and his pal, Nutty Cook, at large in a distant valley where all manner of wild animals live in impossible harmony with one another. A gun-toting hermit lends an element of danger. Brilliant stuff, from an artist who would be honored many years later by the National Cartoonists Society for the development of "the oldest regular comic strip still piloted by its creator." Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 25" x 16". Moderately age-toned with marginal staining, lightly intruding on the art itself. Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
