Maurice Sendak - "Hungry Birds" Advertising Pencil Studies Original Art (Bell Atlantic, 1997). Exquisite set of four pencil studies created for a "Wild Things Are Happening" advertising campaign for a Bell Atlantic animated television commercial. Sendak's classic, award-winning 1963 children's story book has been adapted into animated films several times, and is one of the most popular picture books among children of all time. The four tightly-drawn sketches, originally sold as part of the Maurice Sendak estate, are in graphite on a single sheet of onionskin paper; each separate sketch (numbered 9, 11, 16, and 36) measures roughly 2" tall, and the combined image area is 7" x 6" with a signature in the lower right corner. Excellent condition. Includes computer print-outs from National Book Auctions and Invaluable describing the original sale, plus a small scrap with their original catalog description.
