Description

Marie Severin and Bruce D. Patterson The Spectacular Spider-Man #47 Story Page 17 Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1980). Trapped in a poison-gas chamber with a recurring bad guy known as the Prowler (or a proxy-Prowler), Spider-Man faces a seemingly inevitable doom with resignation and a defiant demand: "Why?" His would-be murderer, the mysterious Madame Belladonna, explains her motive: "Because I don't like you." Dark humor and desperate suspense, in perfect proportionate balance. Marie Severin, Marvel's greatest secret-weapon artist, styles the art in a manner reminiscent of the seminal Spider-Man illustrator, Steve Ditko, with a suitably smooth inking job from Patterson. (N.B.: The Marvel Prowler is not to be confused with Eclipse Comics' Prowler franchise of 1987-1990.) Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Toned and in Very Good condition, with Severin's signature at lower right margin.
