Leland Gustavson Wyoming Manhunt Original Art Group of 6 (Collins Wild West Club, 1957-58). Allan Vaughan Elston's Wyoming Manhunt, a bracing tale of a serial killer at large in the Western frontier, has seen various editions -- none so vivid as the d├ębut version with Gustavson's splendidly virile artwork. The drawings were prepared in consultation with the author and, as such, are thematically inseparable from the story. Here are the original ink compositions, all large and masterful. And here is the Old West as it must have been in reality: Violent, unforgiving, and fueled by the maverick imperative. The rich inking style ranges from densely layered solid blacks to a variety of crosshatching and dry-brush shading techniques. The artist's pencilled notes key each illustration to a specific scene in the story. Ink over graphite on double-weight Bristol board. Image areas, 8" square, with marginal notations. Light to moderate toning. Very Good condition.
