    Description

Johnny Gruelle Brutus Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-12-36 (New York Herald-Tribune Syndicate, 1936). A surprising outburst of slapstick violence from an artist better known for the gentle sentimentality of his Raggedy Ann stories. Bedfast Mr. Brutus is provoked to a rage by a dimwitted employee's tale of a festive fireworks display. Geared to Independence Day, but published more than a week later. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20" x 13". Uniform age-toning. Otherwise in Excellent condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
