    John Thornton (Iger Studio) Flamingo Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 5 (Phoenix Features, ca. 1953-1956) John Thornton succeeded Matt Baker on writer Ruth Roche's exotic adventure strip, Flamingo, during the 1950s. These five dailies cover an ordeal in a cave and its resolution, the beginning of a new mystery, the revealing of a murderer, and a rescue following a wildfire. Vivid brushwork and dynamic perspectives, with influences from both Baker and the Iger Studio's art director, Robert Hayward Webb. Although no year is given, these are dated: 1-2, 7-18, 8-29, 9-24, and 11-29. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 5" x 18.5. Penciled editorial instructions and discolored tape in some margins. Faint tanning. Original lettering corrections and whiteout corrections. Otherwise in Excellent condition.
