John Severin The Western Kid #4 Cover Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1972). A competitive strategy to dominate the newsstands led Stan Lee to reprint many pre-Marvel stories from the midcentury, lavishing new cover art from such popular-favorite artists as John Severin. This one is a gem of rare intensity. What the company saved on interiors (with all stories bought and paid-for since the 1950s et Seq.), it could apply to new cover compositions by some of the best artists in the business. Hence the presence of Severin, an acknowledged master of Frontier Gothic realism. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with elements. New-art dimensions, approximately 8.25" x 8.5", surmounted by photostatic boilerplate. Unevenly toned, with handling wear. Very Good condition.
