John Severin Cracked #173 "The Empire Strikes Back" Cover/Pullout Poster Original Art (Major Publications, 1980). This single two page spread piece of original artwork was cropped to the center portion for the front cover of this issue, then printed in full on the inside front and back covers for a pull out poster. The two-page splash page poster is signed by Severin near Yoda and Sylvester P. Smythe. With the attention that the new Star Wars trailer is getting, especially for Harrison Ford who appears on this piece, look for Star Wars-related items to resurge. Also featured on the huge work are Lando Calrissian, C-3PO, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker (on a kangaroo instead of a tauntaun), Chewbacca, and a slew of Rebels and Snowtroopers. Painted in acrylic on illustration board with an image area of 37" x 25". It has tanned to the point that the Snowtroopers look more like Sandtroopers. There is a 1" wide glue residue around all edges from previous framing (with minor skinning). There are multiple pinholes in edges, and water damage on the right side. There is also a small amount of blue crayon mark on the bottom right corner. Overall in Very Good condition and a fantastic piece of Star Wars art. From The Cracked Vault Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
