    John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men#137 Page 38 Original Art (Marvel, 1980). The rest of the X-Men have been defeated, and Cyclops and Jean Grey are the last two standing facing impossible odds as the Shi'ar Imperial Guard close in to finish the job. On the next few pages, Jean Grey would become Phoenix one more time before sacrificing herself to save the Universe. Tension builds to a peak for this last stand on the Moon's blue area on this page from the seminal X-Men issue that would go on to define the mutants for generations to come. Career defining pencils from John Byrne brought the drama of Chris Claremont's groundbreaking script to life and finished off with the stellar inks of Terry Austin. The impact this issue would have on the Marvel Universe and comics, in general, cannot be overstated. Ink and white paint highlights over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The page is lightly toned. There is production tape on the page number (38, due to ads, but story Page 28), white on black text paste-up in Panel 4, a whiteout text correction in Panel 5, an original art/text paste-up correction in Panel 5, whiteout marks beneath Panel 1, and the top left corner is trimmed. In Excellent condition. From the Chris Claremont Collection.
