Joe Shuster - Superman War Bond Auction Illustration Original Art (1944). You may have seen Joe Shuster drawings of Superman before, but you likely have not seen one like this! It is an enormous full body drawing, with a personalized message and signature. The real kicker is that it was produced live on stage in 1944 at a well documented War Bond Auction. The winner, 6 year old Charles Pezzolla, was photographed for the Long Island Star-Journal as Joe Shuster presented him with the finished piece. The War Bond Rally was held in Flushing, NY, at the RKO Keith's Flushing Theatre on July 12th, 1944. Little Charles Pezzolla was the first to buy a bond for the Superman drawing, so even though there were subsequent bidders, it was awarded to the youngster. The piece is produced in blue pencil on 20" x 30" illustration board. Superman measures 20" from toe to spit-curled head. Shuster's signature is 6" wide alone. This is a big piece with a nice history to it. The board is tanned with some foxing on the front and minor water damage on the backside. It is nicely Plexiglas front framed and ready to hang. Overall in Very Good condition. Includes lo-res prints of scans of vintage newspaper clippings to support the provenance.
