Joe Kubert Brave and the Bold #35 Splash Page 1 Hawkman and Hawkgirl Original Art (DC, 1961). The Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl in their second appearance! It's a high-flying splash page featuring the Winged Wonders as they soar into danger illustrated by the steady hand of Joe Kubert. It's from the story "Valley of Vanishing Men". What is the secret behind the Abominable Snowmen?... Aliens. But hey, Katar Hol and Shayera Hol were aliens as well, right? Editor-in-Chief Julie Schwartz was pulling from his years as a science fiction literary agent to give DC's revitalized Silver Age a basis in Science and Science Fiction. To that extent, he pulled in talented sci-fi writers, such as Gardner Fox who created the updated versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. This twice-up scale page is a real stunner, rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 19" (including the stat paste-up header). The Hawkman logo is a modern day replacement. The "vanishing" effect on Hawkgirl was created with a scratch technique whereby the artist literally scratches the ink off the board, resulting in some slight abrasions in those places. The lightly toned board has a bit of glue residue stain in the lower caption box, and where the original Hawkman logo was pasted. In Very Good condition.
