This illustration was published as the first edition hardcover dust jacket for At the Earth's Core by Edgar Rice Burroughs (A.C. McClurg & Co., 1922). St. John's impact on the entire visual language of fantasy illustration would be difficult to overstate, and such an iconic cover painting for a hugely important book by one of the fathers of fantasy illustration is extremely rare - this is truly one of the very finest examples to ever come to auction.

More Information: A few small flakes of loss along edges of work; under UV light, there appears to be no inpaint. Framed under acrylic to 46 x 35.25 inches.
