Jack Kirby and Mike Royer Jack Kirby's Gods Portfolio Mailing Envelope Illustration Original Art (Communicators Unlimited, 1972). Jack Kirby created his own modern mythology. In the 1940s, he drew the classic Greek Gods, recast as superheroes, archetypes such as Mercury, later renamed Hurricane, for Red Raven Comics #1. In the 1960s, Jack Kirby co-created The Mighty Thor, and further modernized and revised the classic Norse God myths. This piece was used on the decorated envelope for a portfolio of four prints (Heimdall/Sigurd/Balduur/Honir), and according to the Jack Kirby Checklist Gold Edition, it was inked by Mike Royer. The portfolio was issued in 1972 by Communicators Unlimited, and included were four beautiful color prints of character ideas created while Kirby worked for Marvel -- for a never-produced comic to be called Gods. The idea eventually evolved into DC's New Gods. This cosmic masterpiece has an image area of 10" x 15", and aside from overall paper aging, it's in Excellent condition.
