Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott Fantastic Four #57 Doctor Doom and Silver Surfer Page 7 Original Art (Marvel, 1966). The collector of Jack Kirby art, and Marvel Age art in particular, could hardly hope to find a more senses-shattering showstopper than this superb graphic gem. Start with two of the most-collected Kirby co-creations ever -- Doctor Doom and the Silver Surfer (only the fifth appearance of the latter, by the way). Then top that off with stellar appearances by the Thing riding his Sky Cycle, Mr. Fantastic, and the Invisible Girl, all from an epic storyline seared into the memory of every true Marvelite -- namely Doctor Doom's nefarious plot to rob the Surfer of his "power cosmic," through a nasty brew of technological acumen and evil guile. Kirby has imbued the deceitful Doom and the ever-impassive Surfer with expressions befitting the cat-and-mouse game unfolding. This classic page gleams with the sleek perfection that Joe Sinnott, Kirby's best inker (in the minds of many fans), brought to Kirby's pencils. This masterwork also provides a fascinating insight into the workings of the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby team and their "Marvel method," and how Lee turned Kirby's succinct summaries of the dialogue (written in the margins in Kirby's distinctive handwriting) into the priceless Lee prose that proved to be the ultimate complement to Kirby's pictures. The image area of the page is 12.5" x 18.5", and aside from a few touches of white-out in the word balloons, the art is in Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
