Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers Strange Tales #101 Pages 2-3 Fantastic Four Origin Recap Original Art (Marvel, 1962). The Fantastic Four's origin is retold by the Human Torch on just the second and third pages of his first-ever solo story. It's only the second time this story had ever been retold, the only previous retelling being Fantastic Four #3. And it's worth reminding younger folk that in those days there were no reprints yet available, so we dare say a large percentage of this issue's readers were seeing the origin for the first time.
Also, this was very early in the Marvel Universe -- the only other superheroes with regular features at this time were Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Thor, and Ant-Man, and no further superheroes became regulars until five months later when Iron Man debuted and Spider-Man got his own title.
We also learn a bit about Johnny Storm's daily life -- another sign that this was an early story is that his identity was still secret. And the villain of this first solo adventure, the Destroyer, is seen for the first time.
Of course all of the above is courtesy of comics' all-time-greatest visual storyteller, and a darn good inker in Ayers. If you fell in love with this back in '62, we doubt your enthusiasm has dimmed any since!
Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Each page has an image area of 12.5" x 18.75". The pages are slightly toned, with some staining, and corner and edge wear. Very Good condition.
