    Description

Irwin Hasen Dondi Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 11 (Chicago Tribune, 1958). Beautifully drawn in Hasen's painterly style, with lush and fluid brushwork, Dondi is a masculine variation on Little Orphan Annie, centered upon the perils faced by an outcast child in a world of treacheries and intrigues. Dondi, however, is no helpless character -- he's resilient and good-natured, and as heroic as the more benevolent adults in his orbit. These fine episodes cover a great deal of adventurous ground, with impeccably drawn facial studies and fine cinematic compositions. (Hasen also is fondly remembered as a key contributor to the Green Lantern comic-book stories of the 1940s.) Dates, all from 1958, are 7-5, 7-12, 7-19, 7-26, 8-2, 8-9, 8-16, 8-23, 8-30, 9-6, and 9-13. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Excellent condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
