Irwin Hasen Dondi Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 11 (Chicago Tribune, 1956-58). Early Dondi strips: Created by Gus Edson and Green Lantern alumnus Irwin Hasen, Dondi first appeared 9-25-55, as a 5-year-old orphan from World War II. Over the decades, he never seemed to age, which eventually became problematical. But in these earliest strips, there is only the promise of a better life in America with Dondi's "buddies," two soldiers he had befriended in Italy. Two episodes are from 1956: 6-18, and 6-27. The other nine are all from 1958: 1-18, 1-25, 2-1, 2-8, 2-15, 2-22, 3-1, 3-22, and 3-29. The art is ink and white paint over graphite on Bristol board with approximate image areas of 20" x 6". The strips are toned, with pinholes in top corners of some. Some have paste-over art or text corrections that have discolored. Some edge and corner wear. Overall, they are in Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
