DescriptionIrwin Hasen Dondi Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 11 (Chicago Tribune, 1956-58). A group of 10 early Dondi strips! Created by Gus Edson and Irwin Hasen, Dondi first appeared in papers on September 25th, 1955 as a five year old war orphan from World War II. Over the decades, he never seemed to age, which eventually became problematic. But in these earliest strips, there is nothing but the promise of a better life in America with his "buddies", the two soldiers he befriended in Italy. Two are from 1956: 6-18, and 6-27. The other nine are all from 1958: 1-18, 1-25, 2-1, 2-8, 2-15, 2-22, 3-1, 3-22, and 3-29. The art is ink and white paint over graphite on Bristol board with approximate image areas of 20" x 6". The strips are toned, with pinholes in top corners of some. Some have paste-over art or text corrections that have discolored. Some edge and corner wear. Overall, they are in Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
