Description

Worth Brehm Cosmopolitan April-1916 "Penrod's Nervous Breakdown" Illustration Original Art (Cosmopolitan, 1916). "That's It!" Mrs. Schofield interrupted quickly. "He's nervous. It's some nervous trouble makes him act like that" Worth Brehm's notes at the top of the page indicate it was at least originally intended for page two of the story, and the top quote reads "You're sure Penrod is well now?" First published in just 1914, this is a very early piece relating to Booth Tarkington's creation. This highly detailed piece, with its expressive faces, is produced in Conte crayon on illustration board with an image area of 16.25" x 15.5". The back of the board is stamped "Dec 27 1915", when the art would have been received in-house. The board is lightly toned, with corners chipped and worn; however, the image area is in Excellent condition.
